Descripción

De mares templados, realiza migraciones entre aguas tropicales y antárticas. Se alimenta principalmente de krill y es una de las ballenas grandes más rápidas (50 km/h). La ballena sei es un competidor eficiente de la ballena jorobada y de la ballena azul, por lo que durante su estadía en busca de alimento, las otras dos especies buscan hacia otras zonas. Forma grupos familiares de 2 a 5 individuos. Entre 2008 y 2010 fue avistada en gran número en el golfo Corcovado.

Estado de conservación: En peligro crítico.

Nombre científico: Balaenoptera borealis.
