Descripción

Se alimenta de peces como merluza y róbalo, además de crustáceos y cefalópodos. Se observa desde la Región de Los Lagos a Cabo de Hornos, y en invierno los juveniles suelen desplazarse al norte. Su pico es más delgado y alargado que el del pingüino de Humboldt. En Chiloé es frecuente encontrar colonias en islas e islotes con abundante vegetación, tanto arbustiva como boscosa.

Estado de conservación: Casi amenazado.

Nombre científico: Spheniscus magellanicus.
